What is the Entrepreneur Residency in Spain?

The Entrepreneur Residency in Spain is not just a visa; it’s an invitation to innovate. Created under the Entrepreneurs’ Law, this permit is exclusively for business projects that are considered innovative, technology-based, or of special economic interest to Spain.

This is the key difference from the standard self-employed permit. Your project must bring something new to the market.

To qualify, your business idea will be evaluated based on several factors: your professional profile, the creation of jobs in Spain, the innovative nature of your project, and its potential socio-economic impact.

The entire application is managed by a specialized government body, the UGE-CE (Large Business and Strategic Collectives Unit), which guarantees an incredibly fast resolution time of just 20 working days.

The heart of your application is a comprehensive and persuasive business plan. This document must not only detail your financial projections, but also strongly defend the innovative character and value proposition of your project.

A major advantage is the flexibility of being able to apply directly from within Spain. You can arrive as a tourist, finalize your business plan, and we can submit your application to get you a three-year residency card without you needing to leave.

This residency also includes your direct family members. Your spouse and children can be included in your application and will receive their residency permits at the same time as you.

No. The Entrepreneur Visa is for innovative projects and is processed in three months. The Self-Employed Visa is for traditional businesses (shops, restaurants, etc.).

Do I need a lot of money to invest?

There is no official minimum investment amount. The investment must be sufficient and coherent with the needs detailed in your business plan. The focus is more on the quality and innovation of the project than on the initial investment figure.

Can I apply if I am already in Spain as a student?

Yes. One of the great advantages of this permit is that you can transition to it from another legal status within Spain, including from a student visa, without having to return to your home country.
