The Highly Skilled Professional Visa in Spain is the premier immigration route for top international talent. Created under the Entrepreneurs’ Law (Ley de Emprendedores), its purpose is to attract qualified professionals by offering a significantly faster and more flexible process than the standard work permit.
The single greatest advantage is that it completely bypasses the National Employment Situation. Your employer does not need to prove that there are no suitable candidates in Spain or the EU, removing the biggest obstacle of the general regime.
To qualify as a “highly skilled professional”, you generally need to fit one of two profiles. Either be a graduate or postgraduate from a prestigious university or business school, or be a specialist with a minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience.
A key element is the salary threshold. The job offer must meet a specific minimum salary, which for 2025 is generally over €41,000 annually. This can be reduced to around €31,000 for professionals under 30 or for roles in strategic sectors.
The entire application is managed by a specialized unit, the UGE-CE, which guarantees a resolution in just 20 working days. This incredible speed is a game-changer for professionals and companies.
